Ontake Distillery, a boutique operation founded by the historic Kagoshima-based producer Nishi Shuzo, achieved significant recognition at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) 2026. The distillery secured top honors in both the craft whisky and traditional shōchū categories.

Nishi Shuzo, which has a distilling legacy dating back to 1845, expanded into single malt whisky through its Ontake Distillery brand, established in 2019. Under the leadership of CEO Yoichiro Nishi, the distillery utilizes regional brewing traditions and local expertise to produce premium spirits.
