Ontario awards Highway 400 widening design contract to AECOM

The Ontario government has awarded AECOM a detailed design contract to widen an 11-kilometre section of Highway 400. The expansion will occur between Highway 9 and the future Bradford Bypass (Highway 425) in King Township.

The project aims to increase the highway capacity from six to 10 lanes by adding one general-purpose lane and one high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction. This expansion is intended to extend the existing HOV network south of Highway 9 and reduce traffic congestion within the Greater Toronto Area.

In addition to lane expansion, the contract covers work on culverts, signage, drainage, storm sewers, lighting, and interchange ramps. Officials noted that the project is a critical step in supporting the movement of goods and people through one of Ontario’s most important economic corridors.
