Ontario byelections: PCs and NDP retain provincial seats

In three provincial byelections held in Ontario, the Progressive Conservative Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP) maintained their respective seats.

In the riding of Scarborough Southwest, NDP candidate Fatima Shaban secured a victory with 40.47 per cent of the vote share, winning by a margin of 2,240 votes. The NDP stated the win reflects voter trust in their affordability measures.

The Progressive Conservatives won two ridings: Susan Lahey took York—Simcoe with 49.81 per cent of the vote, and Jeff Beattie won Hamilton East—Stoney Creek with 38.87 per cent. Premier Doug Ford suggested the results indicate voters trust the party to navigate economic challenges, including concerns regarding U.S. tariffs on manufacturing and automotive industries. The Liberal Party did not win any of the contested seats.
