Ontario deploys first Joint Air Support Unit helicopter in Peel Region
The Ontario government has deployed the first helicopter for its Joint Air Support Unit in the Peel Region. This deployment is part of a $191 million provincewide initiative designed to expand aerial policing capabilities across Ontario.
The new H-125 helicopter, equipped with advanced aviation and surveillance technology, will be used by the Peel Regional Police to track stolen vehicles, monitor dangerous driving, respond to critical incidents, and support investigations into organized crime. The aircraft is also intended to facilitate collaboration between neighboring police services and the Ontario Provincial Police.
Of the total initiative, $134 million is allocated for police services to acquire five helicopters to serve the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa. An additional $57 million, announced in Budget 2025, will fund two H-135 helicopters to support the Windsor Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service.
