Ontario drivers' unsafe habits revealed in CAA survey
A survey by the Canadian Automobile Association South Central Ontario found that 94% of respondents reported seeing unsafe driving behaviours on Ontario roads, while only 57% admitted to engaging in such behaviours themselves. The study showed that 78% of drivers observed speeding, 69% saw aggressive driving, and 67% witnessed distracted driving. Most drivers support penalties for speeding, with 87% favouring fines and 37% saying that penalties have changed their driving in the past year. Additionally, 16% of Ontario drivers reported being involved in collisions caused by distracted driving, most often rear‑end crashes. Michael Stewart, community‑relations consultant for CAA South Central Ontario, said, “Most Ontario drivers can identify dangerous behaviours when they see them, but many don’t realize they may be contributing to the problem themselves.” He added that small changes, such as slowing down and staying focused, could improve road safety.
