Ontario entities invest in skilled trades and workforce development

Toronto Pearson is investing $1.65 million through its 2026 Uplift Fund to support 11 community-led projects aimed at developing skilled trades talent. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 1,000 residents by providing hands-on training, certifications, and career development in sectors such as construction and newcomer employment.

In a separate workforce development move, the Ontario government has allocated $32 million to fund nearly 2,000 additional seats at Humber Polytechnic. These new positions, beginning in the fall 2026 academic year, will focus on high-demand fields including health care, STEM, and skilled trades. This funding is part of a broader $1.7 billion provincial investment intended to create more than 70,000 new postsecondary seats across Ontario to bolster the regional economy.
