Ontario increases speed limits on Highway 400 and other major routes

The Ontario government is expanding its program to increase speed limits on several major highways. Starting Friday, the speed limit on Highway 400 between Highway 401 and Lake Joseph Road will rise from 100 km/h to 110 km/h. Additionally, Highway 115 will see an increase from Highway 35 to the Parkway Interchange.

This expansion is part of a phased rollout by the Doug Ford administration. Future increases are scheduled for August 31, affecting various segments of Highway 401 and Highway 403, and September 30, which will impact Highway 403, 404, 406, 407, 412, 418, and the QEW.

Ontario began testing higher speed limits in 2019. To date, approximately 860 kilometres of the provincial highway network—about 36 per cent—have been upgraded to 110 km/h, including sections of the QEW, Highway 402, 404, and 417. The government maintains that these specific segments were designed to allow for safe travel at higher speeds.
