Ontario invests $10.9 million to train health-care workers
The Ontario government is investing over $10.9 million into ten training projects to prepare approximately 2,000 workers and jobseekers for careers within the health-care sector. This funding is being distributed through the sixth round of the Skills Development Fund Training Stream.
The initiative aims to provide specialized training, mentorship, work placements, and career support for various in-demand roles, including nurses, personal support workers, and medical laboratory technologists. The goal is to strengthen the provincial health-care workforce and improve access to care.
As part of this investment, the Scarborough Health Network is receiving $2,225,017 to train 110 individuals, including those from rural, remote, or underrepresented communities. In partnership with Sir Sanford Fleming College, the network will utilize a Virtual Standardized Patient platform to offer hands-on learning and accelerated training pathways for nurses, nurse practitioners, and personal support workers.
