Ontario invests $9.8 million in workforce training programs

The Government of Ontario is investing $9.8 million through the Skills Development Fund to support six training projects aimed at nearly 1,150 workers and job seekers. The funding targets critical sectors including skilled trades, construction, manufacturing, transportation, and emerging technologies.

As part of this initiative, Skills Ontario will receive nearly $1.2 million for its ‘Trade Up, Move Up Program’. This diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative will provide training, employment assistance, and caseworker support to 250 individuals across six major communities, including the Greater Toronto Area, Windsor, and Sault Ste. Marie.

Other recipients include the Automotive Industries Association of Canada, which is allocated $3 million to train 216 people in automotive service and emerging technologies like electric and hybrid vehicles. Additionally, the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA’s Power of Trades Development Centre will receive over $1.7 million to train 180 participants in roles such as carpentry and construction supervision.
