Ontario invests in Niagara education and environmental protection

The Ontario government has announced significant investments targeting education and environmental protection in the Niagara region.

To bolster the provincial workforce, $76 million has been allocated to fund 3,586 additional student seats at Brock University and Niagara College. These new positions, focusing on STEM, health, trades, and education, are intended to meet high-demand career needs and will be available for enrollment as early as the fall 2026 academic year. This initiative is part of a broader $1.7 billion provincial plan to create 70,000 new postsecondary seats.

Additionally, the province is investing $5 million to combat the spread of phragmites, an invasive plant species. This funding will support 119 local recipients, including Niagara College, which will utilize the resources to manage the species at its Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses to protect local biodiversity and infrastructure.
