Ontario launches Workforce Priority Stream for foreign workers' permanent residence

Ontario opened applications for its new Workforce Priority Stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) effective August 4 2026, creating a permanent‑residence pathway for eligible foreign workers.

Applicants must hold a qualifying job offer from an employer approved in the OINP Employer Portal and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the province’s e‑Filing portal. The stream comprises three pathways: higher‑skill workers, lower‑skill workers and self‑employed physicians who are registered with the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.

Candidates are ranked using a points‑based system introduced on July 20 2026, with periodic invitations to apply. An EOI remains valid for up to 12 months; successful nominees receive a provincial support letter that enables a federal work permit and may qualify for faster processing through Canada’s Express Entry system.
