Ontario man sentenced to 20 years in US for cross‑border drug ring
Guramrit Sidhu, a resident of Brampton, Ontario, pleaded guilty to leading a drug‑trafficking operation that moved large quantities of narcotics from the United States into Canada between September 2020 and February 2023. Federal prosecutors said the ring shipped more than 500 kg of methamphetamine and nearly 350 kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of up to US$17 million. Sidhu was arrested in October 2024, extradited to the United States, and a California federal court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, making him the eighth defendant to plead guilty in the case.
The sentencing underscores ongoing law‑enforcement efforts to disrupt cross‑border drug networks that fuel the opioid and stimulant crises in both countries.
