Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces cabinet shuffle

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced a significant cabinet shuffle involving nine ministers. A key change includes Trevor Jones, formerly the Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness, being appointed as the new Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

Jones replaces David Piccini, who is currently under investigation by the Ontario Integrity Commissioner regarding the alleged mishandling of public funds. Specifically, the Auditor General raised questions concerning the $2.5-billion Skills Development Fund. Rather than being removed from cabinet, Piccini has been moved to the infrastructure portfolio.

The reshuffle also includes Sam Oosterhoff taking over the agriculture portfolio and the creation of a new artificial intelligence portfolio. NDP Leader Marit Stiles criticized the move, stating that the Premier rewarded Piccini with another role instead of ensuring accountability.
