Ontario Provincial Police charge five following Nipigon road incidents
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Nipigon have laid charges against five individuals following three separate road-related incidents over the past week.
In one incident on September 29, officers responded to a report of a swerving black SUV on Highway 11. The vehicle, identified as a stolen Chevrolet Traverse, failed to stop for police near Lake Helen First Nation. Two women were later arrested after the vehicle was found unoccupied. One 33-year-old woman from Long Lake 58 First Nation and a 23-year-old woman from Ginoogaming First Nation face charges including possession of property obtained by crime, flight from a peace officer, and resisting arrest. Both women were subsequently re-arrested following reports of customer harassment at a local business.
In a separate incident on Friday, police attempted to stop a grey Ford F-150 on Highway 11 after suspecting the driver was prohibited from driving. The driver reportedly failed to stop and continued north at high speeds.
