Ontario Provincial Police report two separate traffic incidents in July 2026

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a 27‑year‑old driver with impaired driving, dangerous operation and two counts of abandoning a child after a traffic stop on Highway 11 North near Oro‑Medonte Township on July 8, 2026. Police noted that the driver’s two young passengers were not secured in approved child restraints before the driver was arrested for operating while his blood‑alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Separately, OPP officers from the Thunder Bay detachment investigated a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 11‑17 near Highway 527 on July 11, 2026. The collision involved multiple motorcycles and resulted in the death of a 58‑year‑old woman from Sault Ste. Marie. The highway was closed for several hours while a collision reconstructionist and technical investigator examined the scene before it was reopened.

Both incidents prompted OPP reminders to the public about the importance of sober, safe driving and proper child‑seat usage.
