Ontario SPCA Microchip Clinic; San Diego Shelters Reach Capacity

The Ontario SPCA’s Orangeville and District Animal Centre is holding a free pet microchip clinic on Aug. 14‑15 at the Orangeville Train Station. The event, made possible by a donation of 100 24Petwatch microchips from PetPlace and the town’s use of the station, will allow up to 50 pets per day to be microchipped at no cost, aiming to improve identification and reunite lost animals with owners.

In San Diego, the San Diego Humane Society is offering free microchip services at its El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego campuses through July 3, 2026. At the same time, the organization has taken in nine additional dogs after a request from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, leaving its main shelter with zero available space. The dogs are placed in emergency boarding, and the society reports a record intake of companion animals, urging the community to adopt, foster, and donate.

Both organizations are addressing pet welfare through microchipping while confronting challenges of shelter capacity and high animal intake.
