Onur Air aircraft left to decay at Atatürk Airport

Abandoned aircraft belonging to the defunct airline Onur Air are deteriorating at Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Aerial footage reveals several planes in a state of significant decay, with some missing engines, damaged cockpit windows, and open doors.

Founded in 1992, Onur Air was a major player in Turkey's private aviation sector, operating a fleet that included Airbus A320, A321, and A330 models. The company's decline was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading it to suspend flights in March 2020. Following years of financial struggle, debt, and legal proceedings, the company's bankruptcy was finalized in 2025.

Specific aircraft, such as a 1996 Airbus A320-232, have been subject to seizure due to tax debts. The presence of these derelict planes has drawn criticism regarding the management of national assets and has created a negative impression for travelers using the nearby Yeşilköy area.
