Onur İnci honored with Merton Heroes Award for saving child

Onur İnci, a Turkish restaurant manager, has been honored with the ‘Merton Heroes Award’ by the Merton Council for saving a young girl's life in Wimbledon, London.

The incident occurred on May 25, when a six-year-old girl ran into the path of an oncoming motorcycle while attempting to reach her father across the street. İnci intervened by throwing himself in front of the child to shield her from the vehicle. While the girl escaped without injury, İnci was struck by the motorcycle, resulting in serious injuries and permanent damage to his left shoulder.

During the award ceremony, Merton Council Mayor Suli Saida praised his courage. İnci stated that he did not act to become a hero, but rather because he could not ignore the danger and felt a moral obligation to act.
