Ooni of Ife to attend Dokubo-Asari coronation in Rivers State

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has accepted an invitation to attend the coronation of Mujahid Dokubo-Asari as the Amanyanabo of Elem Kalabari. The ceremony is scheduled for December 19, 2026, in Buguma, Rivers State.

The invitation was extended during a visit by Dokubo-Asari to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State. During the meeting, the leaders discussed strengthening cultural, historical, and economic ties between Ile-Ife and Elem Kalabari. Both monarchs emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in promoting national unity, conflict resolution, and community development.

As the Amanyanabo, Dokubo-Asari will serve as the supreme traditional authority for the Elem Kalabari people, a subgroup of the Ijaw ethnic group. The Ooni’s attendance is viewed as a significant gesture of cultural diplomacy between Nigeria’s South-West and South-South regions.
