Oorelope Local Government registers six hunter associations

Six local hunter associations in the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State have been formally registered with state security authorities. The initiative, funded and facilitated by Oorelope Vice Chairman Wasiu Adewale Babatunde, aims to strengthen community-based security and improve cooperation between local hunters and established security agencies.

Registration certificates were presented to representatives from the Oba Ago, Bonni, Okegboho, Modeke, Jakuta, and Igbope hunter associations during a ceremony at Asipa House. The move is intended to provide formal recognition to hunters, allowing them to act as an organized support system for conventional security agencies in rural areas where formal presence may be limited.

Vice Chairman Babatunde stated the initiative supports Governor Seyi Makinde’s broader security architecture for Oyo State. While the registration aims to leverage local knowledge of forest routes and remote settlements, the development highlights the ongoing need for regulation and accountability within community-led security efforts.
