Opatra London Sha Tin salon suspends operations after sales dispute
The Sha Tin branch of British skincare brand Opatra London, located in New Town Plaza, has suspended operations following a social media controversy involving allegations of aggressive sales tactics.
The dispute gained attention after a video circulated on Threads showing a 58-year-old woman, surnamed Tam, kneeling in distress outside the shop. She alleged that staff used compliments about her attire to lure her into the store, where she was subsequently pressured into making purchases totaling over 60,000 Hong Kong dollars, including approximately 20,000 dollars in interest. The woman also reported skin irritation after using the products and claimed her refund request was denied.
Police confirmed they received a report from the woman regarding the sales practices on July 20, though they stated that a review found no evidence of criminal elements. The Customs and Excise Department has indicated it is actively following up on the incident and will take enforcement action if any violations of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance are discovered.
