Opava and Olomouc push ahead with multi‑billion‑CZK ice‑rink upgrades

The city of Opava is completing a reconstruction of its winter stadium that began in May 2023 and costs more than 450 million CZK. Work is scheduled to finish in June, with public tours starting in September and trial operations to follow. The renovated arena will hold just under 2,000 spectators, feature a wellness centre, restaurant and terrace, and is intended to host summer cinema and other cultural events, turning the venue into a year‑round multifunctional space.

In Olomouc, the unused small hall adjacent to the winter stadium is being demolished this week, a project costing about 2.3 million CZK. A new artificial‑ice hall will replace it, with an estimated investment of roughly 250 million CZK. The new facility will serve the public, schools, figure skaters, sledge‑hockey players and youth hockey teams, and is expected to be built between 2028 and 2029 with financing that includes a 2.5 billion‑CZK subsidy from the city and the Olomouc region.
