Brent crude prices exceed $100 amid Middle East tensions
Brent crude oil prices have surged past the $100 per barrel mark for the first time since July, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The price spike follows Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian energy facilities and ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which have heightened fears of significant supply disruptions.
Flows through the critical Strait of Hormuz have seen a dramatic decline, falling from approximately 8 to 9 million barrels per day in late August to less than 2 million barrels per day. This reduction in transit, combined with threats to shipping routes in the Red Sea, has caused major financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and HSBC, to raise their crude oil price forecasts.
While non-OPEC producers such as the United States, Canada, and Guyana have increased production, the International Energy Agency expects a global supply deficit. In the Middle East, Saudi Aramco has resumed loading at Ras Tanura, but exports from Yanbu have hit a six-month low due to maritime pressures.
