OPEC+ lifts output by 188,000 barrels per day in September 2026
The OPEC+ alliance – comprising Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman – approved a collective increase of 188,000 barrels per day of crude oil production effective September 2026. The decision, taken in a virtual ministerial meeting, ends the voluntary production cuts that were introduced in April 2023 and were intended to stabilise markets during earlier price volatility.
Member states highlighted that the rise will be implemented despite ongoing Middle‑East tensions that continue to disrupt export routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. Kuwait reported a surge in output, reaching 1.971 million barrels per day in July 2026, up from 1.65 million bpd in June and 580,000 bpd in May. Algeria’s quota will rise by 6,000 bpd to 1.007 million bpd, while the other members will adjust their allocations proportionally.
OPEC+ stressed that the increase aims to support global oil‑market stability while acknowledging that the conflict‑driven shipping constraints may limit the full effect of the added supply.
