Opel Speedster marks 25 years of driver-focused performance

The Opel Speedster marks its 25th anniversary, serving as a retrospective on a period when the brand focused on driving emotion rather than pure utility. The lightweight vehicle, weighing approximately 900 kilograms, was designed without modern driver aids such as power steering or electronic stability programs (ESP), prioritizing a raw driving experience.

Developed during a period of collaboration between General Motors and Lotus, the Speedster utilized an aluminum platform created in Hethel. This same foundation was used for the Lotus Elise, making the two vehicles spiritual siblings. The model stands in contrast to Opel’s current lineup of practical vehicles like the Grandland, Frontera, and Astra.
