Opel traces automotive history from early models to electric vehicles

Founded in 1862 by Adam Opel, the German automaker has evolved from manufacturing sewing machines and bicycles to becoming a major influence in the European automotive industry. Following its first car in 1899, the company introduced several landmark models, including the Doktorwagen in 1909 and the affordable Laubfrosch in the 1920s.

Technological milestones include the 1930s Olympia, which utilized a self-supporting body to reduce weight, and the long-running Kadett series. The company also achieved motorsport success in the 1970s with the Ascona 400 rally car and established cult status with sporty models like the Opel GT and Manta.

After being part of General Motors since 1929, Opel transitioned to the PSA Group in 2017 and subsequently became part of Stellantis in 2021. The manufacturer is currently focusing on the electric vehicle market with models such as the Corsa-e to meet modern sustainability demands.
