Open Arms delivers seven tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba
The Spanish NGO Open Arms has returned to Havana aboard the sailboat Astral, delivering approximately seven tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba. This marks the organization’s second mission to the island in just over a month.
The cargo, sourced from Mexican civil society, includes medical supplies, powdered milk, school supplies, and nearly three tons of hemodialysis equipment and supplies. The donations are destined for the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital and the Dr. Abelardo Buch López Institute of Nephrology.
Open Arms founder Oscar Camps stated that the decision to return was driven by the direct observation of shortages in the Cuban healthcare system during their previous mission in July. The aid arrives amidst a period of energy and resource scarcity in Cuba. Previous donations from the NGO included photovoltaic systems, which have helped maintain power for critical care units in local hospitals.
