Open Fiber and ENEA present sustainable digital village model

Open Fiber and ENEA have presented the results of the ‘Open-air laboratory for the development of sustainable digital villages 2023–2026’ project in Rome. The initiative, implemented in the municipality of Pitigliano, serves as a replicable model for other small towns to become sustainable digital villages.

Key technological applications include Open Fiber’s V-ERA platform, which aggregates territorial data to support integrated municipal services such as energy efficiency and tourism, and ENEA’s PELL platform, designed for mapping and monitoring public lighting systems.

The project also incorporates natural risk monitoring, digital twins for territory management, and augmented reality to enhance cultural heritage. It was conducted with scientific support from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the SMARTER research center at the University of Insubria.
