Open Monument Day 2026 scheduled for September in the Netherlands

The Open Monument Day in the Netherlands will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026. In Utrecht, the event celebrates its 40th anniversary with the theme "Resilient Heritage: Utrecht Protects!" A total of 87 monuments will be open to the public for free, including 14 new locations such as the ExBunker, Quinton House, and the medieval Stadskasteel Oudaen. The festivities typically attract between 25,000 and 28,000 visitors and include guided tours, lectures, and walking or cycling routes.

In Zwolle, the event will follow the theme "Resilient Heritage." As part of the celebrations, a musical scavenger hunt titled "City Escape: De Verborgen Klanken" will be organized for children. This free activity, coordinated by the Dubbelgreep music teacher collective and the Open Monumentendag Committee Zwolle, will lead participants to four locations—Schouwburg Odeon, Sassenpoort, Museum ANNO, and Conservatorium ArtEZ—to engage with various musical instruments and ensembles.
