Open-source LLM observability tools face shifts following acquisitions

The landscape of open-source Large Language Model (LLM) observability tools is shifting due to recent corporate acquisitions. An analysis of four prominent tools—Langfuse, Helicone, Opik, and Phoenix—reveals differing outcomes for users following ownership changes.

Langfuse was acquired by ClickHouse on January 16, 2026. ClickHouse has stated that Langfuse will remain 100% open-source and self-hostable, with no changes expected for existing deployments. In contrast, Helicone was acquired by Mintlify on March 3, 2026, with the company moving into “maintenance mode.” Unlike the Langfuse deal, Mintlify has made no formal commitments regarding open-source status or self-hosting capabilities.

The remaining two tools, Opik and Phoenix, continue to operate under their respective parent companies, Comet ML and Arize AI. Arize AI remains an independent, venture-backed entity following a $70M Series C funding round in February 2025.
