Open Standard launches OUSD stablecoin with Visa and Stripe backing
Open Standard has launched Open USD (OUSD), a USD-pegged stablecoin designed for corporate settlements, cross-border payments, and institutional transactions. Supported by a consortium of over 200 partners, the project includes founding members such as Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase, and Shopify. These partners have committed over $1 billion in initial liquidity to the ecosystem.
OUSD is issued by Bridge, a company acquired by Stripe, and operates natively on the Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Tempo blockchains. To ensure transparency, reserve assets are held by BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY, with monthly reports scheduled to confirm backing. The platform utilizes an economic model that distributes rewards to partners based on the volume of OUSD usage and activity they generate.
Since its launch on September 30, 2026, OUSD has reached a market capitalization of approximately $666 million and recorded $2.6 billion in transfer volume. The stablecoin aims to compete with established assets like USDT and USDC by offering zero-fee minting and redemption for businesses through integrations with Stripe, Visa, and Coinbase.
