Open-water swimming events held in Maldives and Mallorca

The Dhiraagu Malé Open 2026 concluded in the Maldives after a two-day event held at Rasfannu on August 21-22. Organized by Swim Maldives, the competition saw over 420 participants ranging in age from 6 to 79 years old. The races included distances of 1km, 500m, and 250m, along with a newly introduced 500m team relay. The event featured inclusive participation from Special Olympics Maldives and para swimmers.

In Mallorca, Spain, the 23rd edition of the Sa Milla open-water swim is scheduled for August 29. The event involves an 1,852-metre swim through the Mediterranean from Club Nàutic S’Arenal to Cala Blava. This year, registration fees will support ELA Balears, an association assisting those affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The competition includes various age categories, ranging from swimmers under 14 to those aged 85 and above.
