OpenAI adds parental alerts for expulsions as Huawei launches child‑tracking smartwatch

OpenAI announced an expansion of parental controls in its ChatGPT service. The new feature will automatically notify a teenager’s parents when the user is expelled from school for threatening or violent behavior, giving families a rapid response tool for concerning actions. The change follows increased pressure from regulators and parent groups for greater oversight of minors using AI platforms.

Huawei introduced the Watch Kids X1, a child‑focused smartwatch that integrates GPS positioning, video calling, step counting, heart‑rate monitoring and emotional‑wellness tracking through the Huawei FamCare app. The device features a 1.82‑inch AMOLED screen, dual‑band GNSS, Wi‑Fi connectivity, IP68/IP69 water resistance and interchangeable straps, allowing parents to set safe‑zone alerts and limit usage.

Both developments reflect a broader push by technology companies to provide tools that help parents monitor and protect children’s online and offline activities.
