OpenAI launches Scheduled Tasks for ChatGPT, adding proactive automation

OpenAI has introduced a Scheduled Tasks feature for ChatGPT that lets users automate reminders, recurring work and web‑ or app‑monitoring without needing to issue a new prompt each time. The system is accessed through a new “Scheduled” page in the sidebar where users can see all active tasks, the next run time and pause, edit, resume or delete them. Tasks can be set for a specific clock time or broader windows such as morning, afternoon or evening, and they run no more than once per hour; inactive tasks may be auto‑paused. The rollout began in mid‑June 2026 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers on web and mobile, and it replaces the older Pulse daily‑briefing function, which will be discontinued within 14 days. Limits on the number of concurrent tasks vary by plan (e.g., three for Go, five for Plus, fifteen for Pro). The update is part of OpenAI’s broader push to make ChatGPT a proactive assistant rather than a purely reactive chatbot.
