OpenAI adds teen safety alerts and pause reminders to ChatGPT

OpenAI announced new safety features for teenage users of its ChatGPT service. The system will show a reminder encouraging a break when a young user has been chatting for a long period, aiming to promote balanced screen time and digital wellbeing.

The company also expanded its parental‑control tools. Parents who link their account to a teenager’s will receive a notification if the teen’s account is disabled for violating rules on violent threats or behavior, with details that allow the parent to review the incident.

These additions build on earlier controls such as time‑limit settings and a study mode, reflecting OpenAI’s broader effort to protect younger users while they interact with AI.
