OpenAI and Amazon appoint new heads to expand AI operations in India
OpenAI has hired Prabhjeet Singh, former president of Uber India, as its country leader in India. Singh will oversee consumer expansion, corporate uptake, partnerships, regulatory affairs and daily management, reporting to OpenAI’s Asia‑Pacific managing director. The move underscores OpenAI’s view of India as its most important market outside the United States, with plans to open offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Amazon has appointed Puneet Gupta as director and head of Amazon Devices India, where he will lead the portfolio of AI‑enabled products such as Alexa‑powered Echo devices, Fire TV and Kindle. Based in Bengaluru, Gupta returns to Amazon after senior roles in retail and e‑commerce, bringing two decades of experience to the company’s AI‑driven connected‑device strategy in the fast‑growing Indian market.
