OpenAI develops PIN and biometric locks for ChatGPT

OpenAI is reportedly developing a new security feature for the ChatGPT app designed to protect sensitive conversations from unauthorized access. According to code discovered in a recent Android test version, users may soon be able to lock specific chats using a PIN or biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint.

Once locked, these conversations would be hidden from the standard app overview, including the sidebar, chat history, and search results. This feature aims to provide a permanent way to secure private dialogues, whereas currently, users must rely on temporary chats that are deleted after use.

Additionally, the update may include a sandbox mechanism for the AI’s memory. Information gathered from locked sessions would be isolated, allowing it to personalize other secured chats without leaking into regular, unprotected conversations.
