OpenAI expands ChatGPT Ads to 31 European markets

OpenAI is expanding its ChatGPT Ads service to 31 European markets, including Italy, Poland, Germany, France, and Spain. This move marks a significant step in the company’s efforts to monetize its large user base through a conversational advertising model.

Advertisements will be integrated into the chat experience for users on the Free and Go subscription plans. These ads are designed to appear as standalone widgets within the conversation, triggered by commercial intent in user queries, such as planning vacations or purchasing products. OpenAI has stated that the advertisements will not influence the AI’s generated responses, and user data will not be sold.

Paid subscription tiers, including Plus, Pro, and Enterprise, will remain free of advertisements. The rollout follows initial testing in the United States and expansion to other global markets. OpenAI is also developing marketing tools to allow advertisers to target specific geographic locations and demographics.
