OpenAI expands ChatGPT capabilities with Chrome browser integration

OpenAI has introduced new capabilities for its ChatGPT Chrome extension, allowing the AI to interact directly with open browser tabs. Through the “@Chrome” command, the chatbot can read web pages, switch between tabs, and, with user permission, perform actions such as clicking, typing, filling out forms, or initiating downloads.

By accessing the user's existing Chrome profile and active sessions, the AI can assist with complex tasks that span multiple websites. This includes comparing product details like prices and materials across different tabs or synthesizing information from various research sources. For sensitive or high-impact actions, the system requires additional user confirmation to maintain control over browser interactions.
