OpenAI expands ChatGPT integration to control Chrome tabs

OpenAI has expanded the capabilities of its ChatGPT Chrome extension, allowing the AI to use open browser tabs as context and perform active tasks through a new ‘Work’ mode. Users can now use the @Chrome command in the ChatGPT web or desktop applications to reference specific pages or multiple open tabs to summarize content, compare data across different websites, or answer questions based on active browsing sessions.

Beyond reading information, the update enables the chatbot to execute repetitive browser-based actions. In Work mode, ChatGPT can fill out forms, send messages, download files, and organize open tabs into groups by topic. This functionality is designed to assist with administrative tasks, such as extracting data from one site to complete a form on another.

The extension is compatible with all Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi, though it is not currently available for Firefox or Safari. These features are accessible to all ChatGPT users, including those on free plans, provided they have the ChatGPT desktop application installed.
