OpenAI has released a preview version of its ChatGPT desktop application for Linux, expanding its presence to major desktop operating systems alongside Windows and macOS. The application integrates ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and the Codex programming assistant, allowing developers to interact directly with local files and repositories. Supported distributions include Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, Fedora 43, and Fedora 44, with availability in .deb and .rpm formats for x64 and ARM64 architectures.

In a separate development, OpenAI introduced GPT-5. 6-Cyber, a specialized model designed for cybersecurity research, vulnerability testing, and incident response. This model is part of the Daybreak program, which provides controlled access to advanced cybersecurity tools for authorized security professionals. Internal testing indicates that GPT-5. 6-Cyber achieved a 95.0% completion rate for complex requests involving exploit chains and privilege escalation, significantly outperforming standard models in these specialized tasks.
