OpenAI unveils dots AI agents and cloud-based Codex updates

At its DevDay conference, OpenAI announced major updates to its software engineering agent, Codex, and introduced a new personal AI agent called ‘dots’.

Codex is transitioning into a cloud-based service with ‘Codex Cloud’, providing reusable development environments that persist across devices including computers, phones, and browsers. These sandboxed cloud containers allow developers to run tasks, such as debugging or running tests, even while their local machines are inactive. The update includes a refreshed Codex CLI with voice command support, a new /agents view for task tracking, and ‘Codex Security Cloud’ for repository scanning.

Additionally, OpenAI unveiled ‘dots’, personal AI agents powered by the GPT-6 Astra model. Designed to act as digital assistants, dots can handle workplace and personal tasks like scheduling, travel arrangements, and budgeting. Dots will be available to Pro and Business Premium ChatGPT users in eligible markets.
