OpenAI files confidential IPO paperwork as AI firms race toward public listings

OpenAI submitted a confidential draft registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, signalling its intention to pursue a large initial public offering, though no specific timeline has been set. The filing comes as the company competes with rivals Anthropic, which has filed its own draft and aims for a fall listing, and follows the upcoming massive SpaceX IPO.

Purplelicity CEO Aravind Srinivasan told CNBC that the AI search startup will target a 2028 IPO, independent of OpenAI or Anthropic. He reiterated that Purplelicity has no plans to list before then and emphasized that the outcomes of other AI IPOs could have broader industry effects. Srinivasan also noted that while AI firms command high valuations, sustained performance and cost management remain crucial.

Both companies view the upcoming public offerings as a test for the broader AI sector, with investors watching closely for how these high‑profile listings perform.
