OpenAI files for IPO as Cursor unveils new AI model and tools

OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, has submitted a confidential registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, signalling its intention to go public. The filing, part of a wave of high‑profile AI company IPOs that includes Anthropic and SpaceX, could raise billions of dollars in fresh capital to fund costly research, data‑center expansion and next‑generation models.

At the same time, the startup Cursor announced a suite of new products. It will launch its first fully self‑trained AI model, described as comparable in size to OpenAI’s GPT series and trained with ten‑ to twenty‑fold more compute power. Cursor also introduced Origin, a Git‑platform designed for collaboration between humans and AI agents, and a mobile iOS beta that lets users monitor and control agents on the go. The company noted that its parent, Anysphere, was recently acquired by SpaceX, and the new model is being trained in partnership with SpaceX’s resources.

Both announcements highlight the growing convergence of artificial‑intelligence development with major aerospace and technology investors, underscoring heightened competition and capital inflows in the sector.
