OpenAI hires Patreon executives to lead creator product strategy
OpenAI has hired three key executives from Patreon to lead its new Creator Product division. The group includes Sam Yam, co-founder and former President and CTO of Patreon, along with former head of product Drew Rowny and former head of engineering Shannon Ma.
Sam Yam announced the move on X, stating that the team intends to “build together with Creators at OpenAI and share early access to a new set of tools that I think will be critically valuable to Creators and their communities.” The expansion suggests OpenAI is moving toward the creator economy and monetization sectors, leveraging the expertise of a team that helped Patreon facilitate over $10 billion in creator earnings since 2013.
Yam indicated that the team may preview new developments during the upcoming OpenAI DevDay. The departure of these senior leaders represents a significant talent shift for Patreon, which recently underwent restructuring and announced a new product roadmap.
