OpenAI hosts game development hackathon in Seoul
OpenAI hosted the ‘OpenAI Game Builders Seoul’ event in South Korea to explore the future of game development and services through artificial intelligence. The event featured keynote speakers including former XL Games CEO Jake Song and Com2uS Chairman Song Byung-jun.
Jake Song shared insights on using OpenAI Codex to increase coding throughput by more than eightfold during MMORPG development. He proposed a model where AI acts as an autonomous agent within games, capable of perceiving, judging, and acting independently. Com2uS Chairman Song Byung-jun discussed how AI could lower entry barriers for creators and accelerate global publishing, while also introducing ‘Hive Axyl,’ an AI-powered game backend platform.
The event included a hackathon where 40 pre-selected teams participated in live game construction and presentations. Organizers plan to expand the Game Builders series to other regions, including Japan, the United States, and Europe.
