OpenAI introduces ChatGPT advertisements in India
OpenAI has begun rolling out advertisements for ChatGPT users in India. The sponsored content will appear as separate cards below the main AI responses rather than being embedded within the text. This feature is specifically targeted at users on the Free and Go subscription tiers; users on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education plans will remain ad-free.
To ensure user privacy, OpenAI stated that advertisers will not have access to private chat history, memories, names, emails, or IP addresses. Advertisers will only receive aggregated data, such as impressions and clicks. The ads are personalized based on the current conversation topic, previous interactions, and user memory, but the company maintains that actual chat content is not shared with third parties.
OpenAI will not display ads to users identified as minors. Users retain the ability to hide uninterested ads, understand why specific content was shown, or delete their ad data. This expansion follows previous testing and rollouts in several other countries, including the US, UK, Canada, and Japan.
