OpenAI introduces GPT-6.1 Sol with high performance and low cost

OpenAI has officially introduced GPT-6.1 Sol at the DevDay 2026 event. This new model is designed to provide high performance in agent-based software development, autonomous computer control, document analysis, and multi-step enterprise workflows.

Engineers report that GPT-6.1 Sol achieves capabilities similar to the company’s flagship GPT-6 Astra model but operates at approximately one-fifth of the cost. In coding benchmarks such as DeepSWE v1.1, the model matched Astra’s success score. It also demonstrated comparable performance to Astra in analyzing complex financial, legal, and medical documents via the GDP.pdf test.

The pricing structure for the model’s API is set at $2 per 1 million input tokens and $10 per 1 million output tokens. Notably, OpenAI has implemented a 95% discount for cached inputs, reducing the cost to $0.10 per 1 million tokens to support multi-step agent applications.
