OpenAI releases GPT-6 Astra with advanced agent capabilities
OpenAI has released GPT-6 Astra, a new model demonstrating significant advancements in autonomous agency, spatial reasoning, and specialized industry applications.
In robotics benchmarks, Astra showed improved spatial understanding, completing 7 of 100 tasks in the StationeryBench test. It also became the first model to exceed the human-AI baseline across all subtasks of the Drone-Bench. In simulated business environments, Astra outperformed competitors like Claude Fable 5.1, averaging $15,515 in a vending machine simulation.
Industry adoption is expanding. Perplexity is integrating Astra for end-to-end workflows, including software modification and production monitoring. Cognition has integrated the model into its Devin platform, reporting a 64 percent reduction in code testing costs.
