OpenAI launches ChatGPT advertising in Brazil

OpenAI confirmed that ChatGPT will begin displaying advertisements to users in Brazil. The ads will appear below the AI's answers and will be shown to users on the free plan and the basic paid tiers (Free and Go). Subscribers to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Business and Education plans will not see ads. Users can disable personalized ads through the Settings > Data Control > Ad Control menu. OpenAI says the ads are clearly labeled as sponsored content, are separated visually from the chatbot's responses, and do not influence the model's output.

The rollout follows a pilot that started in several countries, including the United States, and is part of OpenAI's global strategy to monetize its AI services. During a recent visit to Brazil, Dave Dugan, OpenAI's head of global solutions, met with local agencies and announced the appointment of two Brazilian executives – Isabela Dumans, formerly of Google Brazil, and Luiz Felipe Fabrini, formerly of Netflix Brazil – as customer‑success managers for the market. The team is finalising configuration of the advertising platform, with expectations that ads will start appearing within weeks.
